The cabinet encourages the growth of sustainable energy in the Netherlands with a new opening of the Stimulation Regulations for Sustainable Energy Production and Climate Transition (SDE ++). The scheme will start on October 7 this year. A budget of € 8 billion is available.
More sustainable energy
We produce more and more sustainable energy in the Netherlands. This is important to become less dependent on fossil fuels as the Netherlands and for the green economy of the future. The government wants to offer companies with the SDE scheme security for investing sustainable (energy) projects.
The scheme stimulates sustainable energy projects such as solar energy, green gas and geothermal heat. But also investments to make production more sustainable and to replace fossil fuels, for example with industrial heat pumps or electric boilers with heat storage.
Many projects are supported with the SDE. For example, 1600 different projects received approval in 2023. The scheme works as a guarantee and only reimburses any ‘unprofitable top’. If the market price (for example for electricity) increases, the subsidy drops.
Less pressure on full power grid
Projects that put less pressure on the full power grid, such as electric boilers that produce heat outside the ‘peak hours’ on the power grid, will be stimulated extra from this year. For that reason, vertical solar panels are also included in the scheme. These generate power more spread throughout the day and therefore cause peaks less.
With so -called gates, the cabinet reserves a fixed amount for techniques that are important for the energy transition but that have a higher unprofitable top, such as renewable fuels.
From October 2025
The open round is in 5 phases. Projects with a lower subsidy per tonne avoided Co2 Can submit earlier and therefore be discussed earlier. The 1st phase starts on October 7, 2025. More information about the SDE scheme Can be found on the RVO website.
