The end of Oliver Kahn as CEO of FC Bayern was almost two years ago. Now the “Titan” apparently has a new task in the football business.
Ex-DFB goalkeeper Oliver Kahn is facing a possible comeback in the football business-this time in France. The former CEO of FC Bayern is negotiating a takeover of the Girondin Bordeaux Club, which crashed into the fourth league after bankruptcy.
As the president of the Bordeaux metropolitan region, Christine Bost, confirmed to the AFP news agency on Friday, there was already a “serious meeting” with Kahn. The 54-year-old was accompanied by Jacques-Henri Eyraud, the former president of Olympique Marseille. “Of course it is also about financial questions. You can primarily feel the desire to carry the club in a sporting manner,” said Bost and emphasized that the doors are open.
At the beginning of January, Kahn had already confirmed talks “in the initial stage”, and now the negotiations apparently accept concrete forms. Further talks will probably follow on Friday afternoon, this time with the mayor of Bordeaux, Pierre Hurmic.
Kahn, who had left FC Bayern as CEO 20 months ago shortly after the eleventh championship in a row, would face a demanding task in Bordeaux. The six -time French champion had to descend into the fourth league in summer due to financial problems. The club, which still belongs to the Spanish-Luxemburg businessman Gérard Lopez, currently leads the table there.
