Diogo M., who caused a fatal accident in Milheeze last year, has to go to jail for a year. He has also lost his driver’s license for three years. The court in Den Bosch determined this on Thursday. The punishment is considerably lower than the eight years in prison due to the Public Prosecution Service (OM). A 75-year-old man from Milheeze died in the accident. The victim was hit in his car at a speed of over 171 kilometers per hour from behind.

According to the public prosecutor, the born Portuguese, Diogo M., wanted to put an end to his life with his Dollemans ride. During the session he called him “impulsive and extremely selfish.”

The OM thought there was a manslaughter. The judge thought differently: M. drove way too fast, but it could not be proven that there was an attempted suicide. The judge blamed it very much that an innocent man has fallen victim to his frustration.

“We couldn’t say goodbye, could only look at a wooden box.”

Survivors announced during the hearing that they thought it was indigestible what happened: “We could not say goodbye, could only look at a wooden box. This is heartbreaking.”

The victim died on the site of the accident, the Schutsboomsestraat, the main road from Bakel to Milheeze. M. said he was tired that day. He barely slept because his girlfriend at the time had told the night before that she wanted to end their relationship. M. wanted to pick up things on the morning of the drama from the father of the woman. When he saw them get into a car in Bakel, he drove after them. With a dizzying speed.

On average, he achieved more than 170 kilometers. At the time of the collision, he must have touched 171 kilometers per hour. The man from Milheeze then rode about 80 kilometers per hour, the maximum speed on the part of the road where he died.

The havoc after the accident was great:

M. could not give an explanation for the high speed, which led to irritation to the judge: “This is KUL anyway.” The Portuguese said that he could not remember much anymore of the accident, in which he himself was seriously injured. He denied that he had serious suicide plans: “It was a dramatic and emotional day for me. I just wanted to attract attention to her.”

During the ride that preceded the fatal collision, M. caught up with a number of cars. The driver of a quad barely managed to prevent a collision. At a certain moment his car even came loose from the road surface. “What a madman,” a witness would explain later.

The OM rather demanded eight years in prison and a ten -year driving denial. The court does not agree. The judge once again mentions that it has not been proven that M. wanted to rob himself of life. “The suspect has avoided two other cars.”
