With their first home win since October, Hansa Rostock has once again made up ground in the relegation battle of the 2nd Bundesliga. The promoted team won the Baltic duel against Holstein Kiel 3: 2 (1: 0) and got the next three goals a week after the spectacular 4: 3 at Schalke.
Pascal Breier (4th), John Verhoek (68th) and Hanno Behrens (81st) scored for Rostock, who had previously waited in vain for a win in six home games. In the table, Hansa overtook Kieler Storchen, who conceded their fourth defeat in a row despite being equalized twice by Alexander Mühling (50th) and an own goal by Calogero Rizzuto (71st).
The 21,750 spectators in the Ostseestadion got the best entertainment right from the start. Breier hit the lead early on with his left, then Simon Lorenz headed the other side onto the crossbar (10′) before Breier had an early brace (11′). In this phase, Hansa acted with a lot of effort towards goal and never like a relegation candidate.
After the break, however, Kiel equalized through Mühling – only the TV pictures showed that the ball had crossed the line. Rostock’s renewed lead didn’t last long either, before Behrens scored the acclaimed 3:2.
