Where many supermarkets trade in the normal cash registers for a self -scank mass, Jumbo has actually removed the self -scankassas in the Breda district of Tuinzigt. From now on all customers must pay again at Kassières at the regular cash registers or at the Service Desk.
A waste of the investment, you would say, but hardly any use was made of the self -scank masses, says the supermarket chain. According to a customer, there was indeed often a row at the Kassières and the self -scankassas were then empty.
Shoplifting
Jumbo announced last year that 100 million euros is stolen from the supermarkets annually. A large part of it happens with the self -scank masses, both on purpose and by accident, for example because someone forgets to scan a product. Since February 2024, the Jumbo has therefore been experimenting with measures, such as extra security guards, cameras and sharper samples.
