US runner Grant Fisher is in top form. Now the 27-year-old has cracked a world record that lasted for over 20 years.

“So many things have to come together perfectly so that an athlete performs his best performance on race day.” With these words, the US runner Grant Fisher announced his world record over the 5,000 meters on Instagram. The 27-year-old clearly undercut the 20-year-old record of the Ethiopian Kenenisa Bekele at the Hallen meeting in Boston. Fisher stayed with 12: 44.09 minutes more than five seconds of 12: 49.60 minutes from 2004.

The Frenchman Jimmy Gressier ran in second place behind Fisher and set up a new European record in 12: 54.92 minutes. For Fisher it was the second world record within a few days: Last weekend, he mastered the 3,000 meters in 7: 22.91 minutes in New York and also set up a new record there.

Already on Thursday, Norwegian Jakob Ingigtsen in Liévin (France) made headlines with an extraordinary performance. The 24-year-old set up two world records in a race: over 1,500 meters in 3: 29.63 minutes and over the mile in 3: 45.14 minutes. The miles of the mileage had just been improved by the American Yared Nuguse to 3: 46.63 minutes-on the same day when Fisher set up his first world record over 3,000 meters.
