It was speculated for weeks whether quarterback Aaron Rodgers at the New York Jets still has a future in the NFL. Now the executive floor has announced a decision.
As the franchise officially announced on Thursday, the New York Jets will go into the new season without Aaron Rodgers. “We had a conversation with Aaron last week and presented our intention to take a different direction in the quarterback position,” said head coach Aaron Glenn and General Manager Darren Mougey in the course of the message.
“It was important to us to have this discussion now in order to create clarity and give both sides enough time to plan their own future,” said the time of the decision in New York.
Rodgers actually had a valid contract for 2025. His basic content would have been $ 2.5 million, but an optional bonus of $ 35 million was still anchored – his cap hit: $ 23.5 million.
The separation for the jets now means Dead Money of $ 49 million. However, this could be distributed over the coming two seasons via formal discharge or retirement after June 1st.
Jets owner thanks Aaron Rodgers
Rodgers had given his comeback after Achilles tendon tear in the past season. With a balance of 5-12, the post-season was also clearly missed with the star quarters.
Team owner Woody Johnson thanked Rodgers for his two years at the Jets. “His arrival in 2023 was associated with unbridled euphoria and I will always be grateful that he has decided to join us and continue his Hall-of-fame career,” it said in a statement.
“From day one, he embodied what it means to be a New York Jet,” praised the owner. “I will remember that when I look back on his time. He will always be welcome here and I only wish him the best – no matter which way he chooses.”
With the jets, separation is the last step of a complete fresh start. The coming season is starting with a new head coach, the general manager and offensive coordinator are also new.
