The Italian Federica Brignone put all the competition in the shadow at the giant slalom in Saalbach-Hinterglemm. Lena Dürr became strong ninth.
She clenched her fist and screamed: The new world champion in the giant slalom is called Federica Brignone. The Italian drove away from the competition on Thursday and secured the gold medal with a lead of nine tenths of a second to second -placed Alice Robinson from New Zealand.
It is the second medal for Brignone-in the Super-G she got silver. Bronze went to Paula Moltzan from the United States, which was already 2.62 seconds.
The bad luck of the day was Thea Louise Stjernesund, who conjured up a brilliant second round in the Snow Snow, but missed bronze by just a hundredth of a second.
Dürr surprisingly strong
On another sunny day at the Ski World Cup, slalom specialist Lena Dürr also shone. The athlete from SV Germering had a good starting point (7th place) in the first round, but fell back a little in the decision -making run. In the end she landed ninth with 3.56 seconds behind – nobody had that far ahead. “It was incredibly fun to be received down there”Dürr said at the finish.
“The day was very very successful for me.” The race was a “very very good reconciliation for the last two days I had on my slope”. In the team combination, Dürr had given up the medal when she left in the slalom and the Germans were also behind the expectations in the team parallel race.
Dürr’s big appearance will follow on Saturday, in her special discipline she starts as a favorite. The other two DSV starters Emma Aicher and Fabiana Dorigo fell far back in the first round and had nothing to do with the top positions.
