Pupils from Kindcentrum Drijber can finally cycle safely to school. After many years, Drijber has the desired cycle path that connects the school with the village.
The school is about five hundred meters from the village, students always had to share the narrow road Nijenkamp with other traffic. Already in 1999 the wish for a cycle path at the municipality of Midden-Drenthe was deposited from the village.
In 2018, the municipality promised that the cycle path would actually come. According to Local Interest, nothing stood in the way of construction, landowners would be willing to give up a strip of land. Nevertheless, the municipality calls the conversations about buying the land ‘intensive’. After an agreement was reached, it was finally decided last July to construct a cycle path.
That path was festively taken into use yesterday. Together with students, alderman Jan Schipper (CDA) cycled for the first time on the concrete path of 2.5 meters wide.
