The professional cycling round ZLM Tour, which is partly through Brabant, cannot take place in 2025. As a reason, the organization mentions the lack of police deployment by the NATO summit that will be held in the Netherlands on 24 and 25 June.
After the loss of police deployment, the organization said ‘all possible alternatives investigated, such as adjusting routes and the use of traffic controllers’. Without police deployment, the safety around and in the courses could not be sufficiently guaranteed.
“With multiple start and finish locations, public roads and various municipalities involved, police deployment is essential for a responsible organization of the ZLM Tour,” is the statement by Tourmanager Eelco Franckaert.
“We are going to make a lot of ambition to get this Dutch stage race back on the cycling calendar in 2026.”
ZLM Tour
The ZLM Tour lasts five days and is mainly used by Sprinters to prepare for the Tour de France. Fabio Jakobsen, among others, had already announced his arrival.
Earlier, the Veenendaal-Veenendaal Koers was deleted for the same reason. The Dutch Championships on the road and time trial also seem to continue this year. The municipalities where both events would be kept withdrew.
