A 52-year-old former Emmenaar only breaks in during the day. The man could explain this to the judge: “I am afraid in the dark, hence”. For four burglaries, two attempts to do so and a robbery on a drugstore, four years in prison were demanded against the man.
From February 2023, Emmen is plagued by burglaries that are mainly committed during the day. The suspect is on the end for seven criminal offenses on Tuesday. Including an outlier: the robbery at the Kruidvat in September of last year. Under threat with a knife, the man looted 140 euros. He mainly foreseen money or valuable goods, which he could resell.
Drugs was the motivation to do this. Part of the loot was found with him and returned to the rightful owners. The man has a criminal record of 40 sides. He started his criminal career at a young age. According to the public prosecutor, the man has already left a lot of opportunities unused.
The prosecutor felt nothing for a partly conditional punishment with conditions such as daytime activities, guidance and to the rehab clinic. “That must be started within the PI, by the time he is released again,” he said. The suspect’s lawyer finds this too without obligation and the man has much more on strict and continuous guidance.
The suspect still had a conditional prison sentence of 90 days hanging over his head. He must also sit that out if the public prosecutor gets his way.
The court will rule on 25 February.
