Recently, a large number of Finns have received scam messages in which scammers appear as authorities, says the Finnish Telemarketing Association in a news release.
The purpose of scam messages is to get the victim to click on links and steal personal information. Recently, scams have come in the name of other judicial authorities, Varma, S-Bank and Valio.
Appearance as a lawsuit
Scam text messages arrive from a sender called “Justice” and claims that “the prosecutor has challenged you to court.” The law fan is not an existing official body, but a name invented by cheaters to increase the credibility of messages.
Messages often have a link that takes you to the scam site. These messages are identified as a scam, including from the .com ID. It is good to remember that Finnish authorities do not use the .com domain ID in their official communications, and do not send challenge information via SMS, the association says in its announcement.
Performance as an insurance company
The Kilpi application has also recognized scams sent in the name of Varma, including SMS, where the name “Varpha” is used as sender information. This is also not an existing official name, but strives to mimic the occupational pension insurance company.
The scam messages claim that “your retirement income has been put on,” and the recipient is urgently urgently urged to operate via the link in the message. The purpose of such messages is to cause panic, but should not be reacted.
Varma informs about the scam messages on their website to fish for bank IDs.
Occurrence as an S-Bank
There are still many scams in the name of S-Bank. There are many scam messages, especially email. The messages include, for example, “an important security update” or “alarm”.
Messages come from a variety of sending addresses. For example, the sender may be a .ru-terminated domain, which is a clear warning sign. Banks will never ask to sign in to the online bank via email via email.
Valio’s burglary – what to do?
The association has received inquiries regarding Valio’s hacking and how the parties should do and protect themselves.
– According to our information, Valio has now sent instructions to the parties on how to act, but these could work a little faster in the subject of the hacking, so that the parties to the personal data revealed in the hack could immediately react. Our instructions for them now is to be very careful about all the strangers that seem strange, as they can be phishing, advises the founder of the association Arto Isokoski.
