Werder Bremen ranks tenth in the table after 21 Bundesliga match days, with a comfortable 16-point cushion onto the relegation zone. According to club idol Andreas Herzog, there would have been even much more than the current place in the secure midfield of the Tableau.

Werder Bremen mostly showed strong services away and achieved “good results”, the Viennese found in conversation with “ran.de” – before the smooth 0: 3 at Bayern last Friday.

In the Weser Stadium at home, however, there would have been much more than the meager 13 points in ten games, as Herzog emphasized.

“They left relatively simple points at home. If they had got them, they would be […] Maybe even fourth. You have to bite your butt a bit, “the former midfielder is sure that there would have been much more in for his ex-club.

Werder Bremen, in the current season, left points against 1. FC Heidenheim (3: 3) and FC Augsburg (0: 2), and the club bosses have recently struggled with these exuberant opportunities.

Fourth place for the team of head coach Ole Werner is still within reach. RB Leipzig ranks more on the first Champions League rank with six points.

Duke at FC Bayern: “Heavy, but also a nice year”

Andreas Herzog himself played for Werder Bremen for eight years, won the championship with the Hanseatic cities and became DFB Cup winner twice.

A one-year intermezzo at FC Bayern already ended in 1996 after a “difficult, but somehow also a nice year”, as the 56-year-old in retrospect says today.

“Unfortunately, it didn’t fit that in the end. But I still have a good connection to Bavaria and I am always happy when I see my ex-colleagues,” said Herzog about his time in Munich.
