The history of the company began in 2004 with three developers who developed software for remote control of computers within Rossmanith GmbH. A year later, in 2005, TeamViewer was officially founded: in Göppingen, Baden-Württemberg. Just two years later, the software was installed a million times and the third version was released. Teamviewer was acquired by GFI Software another two years later, and in 2010 a Teamviewer office opened in Clearwater/Tampa in the USA. While new TeamViewer functions have always been created over the years, monitis was integrated into TeamViewer in 2014 and thus a large service provider for web and cloud monitoring was part of the company.
Ten years after the foundation, TeamViewer cracks the brand of one billion installations
A year later, Teamviewer achieved a total of one billion installations. In 2017, the tech company developed the first solution for Apple’s screen sharing iOS-Teamviewer was listed in Frankfurt on the stock exchange in 2019. In the same year it was not only classified as a MDAX company, but also included in the TecDAX. In the 2020 pandemy year, TeamViewer bought the Ubimax company, whose technology contributed to Teamviewers AR solution “Frontline”. As TeamViewer announced in mid-January 2022, this was titled by Abi Research as Europe’s best AR solution for companies.
Teamviewer has provided technology to set up a research laboratory on the ISS
Teamviewer has now been installed on a total of over 2.5 billion devices, of which around 40 million are active at the same time. In addition, the company has its own information over 600,000 contract customers, including Henkel and Ford. The largest previous project by TeamViewer was the cooperation with the French space agency Center National D’études Spatiales (CNES) on the Echo project, in which a research laboratory was set up at the ISS space station. As Teamviewer explains on his website, the project also included the remote control of medical devices in space. With the help of TeamViewer, it was successfully found that after six months in weightlessness, “a strong change in blood vessels” occurs.

The company celebrates anniversary: in 2025 two decades have passed since it was founded. But the company continues to look into the future: “With our connectivity platform and the diverse solutions for remote access, support, monitoring and management as well as online collaboration, we are well established for the age of hyper -connectivity,” explains CEO Oliver Steil on the website of the company.
