In the future, stricter regulations for high -performance sports cars will apply in Australia. The state of South Australia has introduced a special driver’s license for vehicles with extreme power -to -weight weight. If you want to drive such a car, you need a “U -license” – including training and exams. The measure should prevent accidents and could serve as a model for other countries.

Stricter regulations for high -performance sports cars

High -performance sports cars from Bugatti, Ferrari or Volkswagen impress with their enormous performance, but at the same time represent a security risk in road traffic. In Australia, new regulations were therefore introduced that regulate the handling of these vehicles. The state of South Australia was the first to introduce a special driver’s license to particularly powerful cars worldwide. In order to run such a vehicle in public road traffic, a so-called “U license” will be required in the future. According to Auto Bild, this measure is intended to prevent inexperienced drivers from losing control of their vehicles and causing accidents.

Requirements for drivers and vehicles

According to Mynicence South Australia, the official platform for driving permits, vehicles with a power-to-weight weight of at least 375 hp per tonne fall under the Ultra High-Powered Vehicles (UHPV) category. In order to receive a “U license”, a special online course must be completed and a final examination must be passed. In addition to the license obligation, there are other safety requirements. According to Mynicence South Australia, it is prohibited to deactivate driving aids such as traction control or ESP. Violations of this regulation can be punished with fines of up to $ 5,000 in the diesel (around 3,000 euros).

The regulation currently applies exclusively in the state of South Australia. Motorcycles are excluded from the new regulation. According to Auto Bild, other Australian states could introduce similar regulations if the measure proved.

Accident statistics as a trigger for the new regulation

The introduction of the “U license” is a reaction to a number of serious accidents caused by high-performance sports cars. Loud T-online led such incidents to increase public pressure to improve the safety in road traffic and to issue stricter regulations for high -performance vehicles.

Responsibility and future developments

With the introduction of the “U license”, awareness of the responsibility in dealing with high-performance sports cars should be sharpened. Vehicle holders are responsible for checking whether your car falls under the new UHPV classification. Special online tools are available for this. With this regulation, Australia takes a pioneering role. However, the increasing number of high -performance sports cars on the streets could lead to similar regulations to be discussed in other countries. It does not appear to be excluded that European countries or the United States will also introduce special requirements for drivers in the future
