As announced, China reacted to the new US tariffs with a complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva.

In the organization’s diplomatic language, this means: “China has applied for consultations about disputes with the United States.”

US President Donald Trump has introduced Zölle of ten percent to all Chinese products. Among other things, he justified this with “theft of intellectual property” and “forced technology transfer”.

As a rule, such WTO consultations are followed by a procedure in front of the dispute arbitration committee within a few weeks. Expert: Check inside whether the increase in tariffs are compliant. This procedure takes several months. If the mediators are in favor of China, Beijing can collect customs duties itself according to the WTO rules to the extent that suffered damage from the US tariffs.

China has already taken this in advance. In response to the US decision, the government imposed additional tariffs of 15 percent on coal and liquefied natural gas and ten percent to oil, agricultural machines and other vehicles from the USA.
