Sam Kerr is on trial. It is about accusation of an insult with a racist background. Now the 31-year-old describes her view of the incident.
The Australian star footballer Sam Kerr levied allegations against the police during her trial for accusation of racist insult. She had the feeling that she was treated differently because of that “what they thought was my skin color”, said the 31-year-old according to the PA news agency. Especially from the police officer that she is said to have insulted.
“The way he accused me of the lie and later (…) arrested me,” said Kerr, who plays in London for Chelsea FC. “Back then I thought they wanted to attach something.”
Kerr, whose father was born in India, is accused of being abusive and insulting and also naming the policeman’s white skin color. A body video of the police was presented in the court for the allegations that Kerr denied.
It is about an incident on January 30, 2023 in Tickenham. Kerr and her partner, the US soccer player Kristie Mewis, got into a fight with a taxi driver at night, who therefore drove to the police. Kerr said they felt hostage that the taxi driver had acted aggressively and drove. “I was afraid for my life,” she said. Mewis is said to have entered a window during the trip.
