The personnel changes among black and yellow could not only be limited to the team. Dortmund’s managing director Lars Ricken recently made an indication.
After the transfer period ended and the change of coach, further personnel consequences at Borussia Dortmund are not excluded. Sports director Lars repeated the corresponding inquiries when the new chief coach Niko Kovač was presented. “If we have something to work out, we will do it internally and also leave it internally,” said Ricken specifically when asked whether something will still happen at the management level.
Most recently, there had been media reports according to which squad planner Sven Mislintat should leave the club. His relationship with sports director Sebastian Kehl is considered disturbed and is said to have led to planned transfers in the past.
Kehl, whose contract was not extended until January to 2027, is therefore under observation. Measured in the criticism of the narrowly occupied squad, the loan, initially committed until the end of the season, Daniel Svensson for defense and Carney Chukwuemeka for midfield are considered manageable. In addition, Salih Özcan, awarded to VfL Wolfsburg, was ordered earlier than planned.
Kehl, however, in particular defended the decision to have not signed a replacement for the offensive outer lanes for the Donyell, sold to Aston Villa for 25 million euros. “We are well staffed in these positions,” said Kehl, referring to Jamie Gitten, Karim Adeyemi and Maximilian Beier on Talent Julien Duranville. “We want to bring him to the next level. He needs playing time for that,” said Kehl.
“We didn’t see anything on the market that would have brought us a perspective with a loan business that does not block us and at the same time makes us better,” said the 44-year-old. “We believe that in this constellation we are very well equipped for what is coming.”
The Bundesliga elevator separated from coach Nuri Şahin two weeks ago. As the successor, the former Bayern coach Kovač is now to lead BVB back to the Bundesliga top group.
