More trees now have been created to do something against climate change in an accessible way. The idea is simple: young trees that grow somewhere where they have no future and collect in a ‘tree hub’. Someone who wants trees can pick them up free of charge.
Van der Laan: “The trees of 2 ounces that we do here can grow into a tree of 500 kilos in 10 years. And it has then stored 1,000 kilos of CO2.” He dreams of a movement that grows over the world from Haarlemmermeer. His initiative is now being followed throughout the Netherlands, the next step is to expand to Europe.
Get free trees
The trees that are harvested by the volunteers will get a great future in other places. They become part of food forests, old hedges are being restored or contributing to biodiversity in someone’s back garden.
The time between harvesting and being re -planted spend the trees in a ‘tree hub’. There are now countless of these throughout the country. By appointment you can get large batches of trees at the same time, but once in a while a ‘distribution day’ is organized and then everyone can bring unlimited trees.
