The power network in Tilburg is being expanded enormously. And that is necessary to be able to provide power to new houses, companies and schools. It costs a few vegetable gardens and the wide view of residents in Tilburg Noord is going, but it has to, says Tilburg’s alderman for energy transition Rik Grashoff. “Society is stuck without a drastic extension of the electricity grid.”

According to Grashoff, entrepreneurs are in his neck: “When, when does the electricity grid expand?!” They call against me. At the same time, we will expand the city with 30,000 homes in the coming fifteen years. ”

According to Grashoff, a doubling of the capacity of the electricity grid is therefore needed. Where a few years ago network manager Tennet said that the high -voltage station in Tilburg Noord would expand a maximum of half, it must suddenly become twice as large. The station gets 20,000 square meters: about three football fields.

“Can’t it be ounce less? No, that’s not possible.”

In 2022, when the initial expansion was planned by half, residents all complained. They felt the ‘drain’ of the city. Alderman Grashoff now has bad news for them. “This really has to happen. So it cannot be that we are happily starting a discussion with each other: “Can’t it be ounce less?” “Can’t we come up with a very different place?” No, that is not possible. ”

And so the allotment gardens that are now on the east side of the current high -voltage station must disappear for the expansion. And the wide view that is still there today will disappear. Peter Brokke van Tennet has been sitting at the table with local residents in recent days. “The general response was:” Oops, “he summarizes sentiment.

According to him, local residents are concerned about their views, the value of their houses and the radiation of electromagnetic fields. The latter is being investigated. Brokke: “And we will meet the applicable standards, if not, we will go back to the drawing board and adjust the design.”

“Damage is reimbursed.”

For example, for a possible fall in value of houses, TenneT has a budget for ‘plan damage’: “And that will be reimbursed according to judgments of the court,” assures Alderman Grashoff. The network operator does not want to say how big that budget is.

Tennet wants to start construction of the new part of the high -voltage station this fall. The expansion must be ready in 2030. On Tuesday evening the area will be informed about the plans during an information evening.
