was probably nothing with the weakened opponent Mr. Reuter. Even if it’s extremely uncomfortable as a fan to only watch the conference for the second weekend in a row, it’s the only sensible decision, the health of the players comes first!
But it’s also understandable that Augsburg doesn’t want to mess up its own game plan because of “external fault”.
Let’s hope that all players don’t get seriously ill and have mild courses. But for Mainz it won’t be any easier with the two English weeks that will now follow.
There can be no question of third-party faults, the team is fully vaccinated and Mainz 05 has fully complied with the DFL’s hygiene concept, which was also signed by FC Augsburg. Of course, the situation is unfortunate for everyone involved, we don’t benefit from it either, but it’s about protecting the health of our players, even if you have to put up with tough English weeks (which can also be lost due to the stress).
However, the approach of those responsible in Augsburg was to doubt the infection of Finn Dahmen (legally), who would be injured even if the test were negative, but has a professional contract, which would force Mainz 05 with Tristian Mohn (goalkeeper from the 2nd team ( Regionalliga)) to compete. Of course it would be much easier for Augsburg than with a full cast.
Every club could and could get into this uncomfortable situation. I don’t think Mainz 05 have a duty to question hygiene (since the infections probably occurred during the away game against Union Berlin on the return flight), but to protect the health of their own players by all means. Even if the test was negative, it would be absolutely irresponsible to let the players play in the Bundesliga after one day, regardless of which club it is.
That’s why I wrote third-party debt in quotation marks. Of course you can’t do much for such circumstances, provided that everyone has followed the rules, which should also be self-evident with such a scope and responsibility.
Even if it’s not the finest style from Augsburg, I can understand that you don’t want to mess up your own game plan. In addition, they are in the middle of a relegation battle and as the person responsible, you try to get the maximum out of it (which is also his job). It’s not nice, but there are no friends in the fight to stay up in the league, it’s all about pure “survival”.
