An 11-year-old girl died in Nieuwegein on Saturday afternoon after a stabbing. Just before 3 p.m. the police received a report of a stab incident. In the meantime, the police have arrested a 29-year-old man. He is suspected of involvement in the girl’s death.
The Utrecht police reported on Saturday afternoon on X that a stab incident on Anemoonstraat was investigated. The street, which is located in the south of Nieuwegein, was closed off. A 29-year-old man was arrested in the ‘immediate proximity’ of the street. The man is interrogated on Saturday evening or Sunday, according to the ANP based on a police spokesperson. Whether the deceased girl and the suspect knew each other is unclear.
Photos and videos show that care providers are massively present in the street. A white screen is placed just before a house. Marijke van Beukering, the mayor of Nieuwegein, speaks in a reaction about a “black page for the loved ones and for Nieuwegein,” writes Anp.
