Every year the best gestation only comes after Christmas at Sportschau. The scorer of the year is awarded. This time gold goes to Munich, Harry Kane.
For 53 years, German football fans have been choosing the most spectacular, best, most beautiful or simply hottest hits of the past year at the beginning of a new year. This was also the case in January 2025.
And as with the first vote in 1971, the response was breathtaking again this time. Over 280,000 spectators and users of the sports show have participated and their vote could hardly be clearer: Harry Kane wins the traditional gold medal of sports show with a good 94,000 votes.

500,000 postcards at the first goal of the year
When the Gladbacher Ulrik Le Fevre was the first scorer of the year in 1971, the votes were still submitted by postcard. Almost 500,000 came to the Sportschau Editor at the time. One may imagine the surprise and overwhelming of the Sportschau-Macher at the time when they saw the mountains of Post in the editorial team on Mondays. In order to get an evaluation at all, students, pupils and prisoners from the Klingelpütz civil servant in Cologne helped. 53 years later, the votes are made online and by phone and the evaluation comes with a click of the mouse.
However, the enthusiasm for the competition did not subside even after half a century. “This is certainly also due to the fact that the fascination for football never subsided”the now deceased inventor of the competition, Klaus Schwarze, once: once: “And goals are the most beautiful thing about football.”
Kane shines with artistic ball acceptance
It’s as simple as it is true and then applies as now. In every respect, Harry Kane has more than earned the award for the scorer of the year. Because the Englishman not only scores a lot of goals, but also particularly spectacular. Like the gate on November 22, 2023 to 3-0 against Augsburg.

Everything spoke of his time of the nature of an Erling Haaland in the Bundesliga, but Kane has pulverized a record of Haaland. The Englishman scored 50 goals in 43 Bundesliga games. No player in front of him needed so few games for the 50. The second-placed Haaland only scored his 50th Bundesliga goal in his 50th game.
First the fourth Englishman
Kane is only the fourth Englishman, who was awarded the scorer of the month and the first to take the title scorer of the year on the island. The first gold medal of sports show went to Alun Evans in November 1971, followed by Kevin Keegan in September 1978 and Tony Woodcock in January 1980.
