BVB and Bavaria affected
Why the draw in the Champions League is different
01/31/2025 – 9:21 a.m.Reading time: 2 min.

The intermediate round of the Champions League will be drawn on Friday. Fans should consider a lot for this.
Two German teams look particularly closely on Friday when the intermediate round of the Champions League is drawn from 12 p.m. in Nyon (Switzerland). Because for FC Bayern and Borussia Dortmund, the question answers who to meet. Bayer Leverkusen can watch the event relaxed, the club is already in the round of 16. VfB Stuttgart and RB Leipzig, on the other hand, have left.
But: It will not be a draw on how they know football fans from recent years from Champions League or from EM and World Cup. Because in the new Champions League mode there is a tournament tree that at least roughly specifies the pairings. If you are on the left after the draw, you can only meet teams from the right in the final. Every final is still possible – but for example, the Liverpool FC (first of the league) and FC Barcelona (second) up to a possible finale are separated.
BVB as 10th and Atalanta Bergamo as 9th meet the best-placed teams outside the top eight on the poorly placed intermediate round teams. These are Sporting (Portugal) and Club Bruges (Belgium) in ranks 23 and 24. So it is only drawn whether BVB meets Sporting or Bruges. All other playoff teams are irrelevant to BVB.
In addition, it is already clear which round of 16 couples meets the winners of the intermediate round duels. In the case of the quartet from Dortmund, Sporting, Bergamo and Bruges, it is the OSC Lille (France) and Aston Villa (England). In the case of the quartet around Bayern, it is Atlético Madrid (Spain) and the German champion Bayer Leverkusen.
However, the exact round of 16 are only drawn on February 21 when the intermediate round is played. Today’s draw for the intermediate round can be found in the live ticker on T-Online from 12 p.m.
