Three days after the separation from Pierre Sage, Olympique Lyon introduced a new trainer. Former AC Milan coach Paulo Fonseca takes over and received a contract until June 30, 2027. In the past week, negotiations by owner John Textor had become known to the Portuguese.
Ol praised the 51-year-old in a club announcement in the highest tones: “This choice, which was unanimously hit by John Textor and the entire sporting direction, is part of the endeavor, Olympique Lyon at a national and European level again to a strong ambition to help. “
Lyon is currently sixth in Ligue 1 and is directly in the round of 16 of the Europa League. But even away from the square, the club always makes headlines, most recently through reports on financial problems and the cup off against a fifth division.
Now Fonseca, who had only been released on December 30, 2024 in Milan after only 24 games and a point cut of 1.75. Previously, he was a coach of Losc Lille, AS Rome and at Shakhtar Donetsk. The station in Ukraine was the longest and most successful of the Portuguese with 139 games and an average of 2.37 points per game.
