Transport and Communications Agency Traficom Cyber Security Center warn counterfeit search results in network search engines.
The authority points out that, for example, Google’s search results should not be blindly relying as they can be manipulated. By buying advertising space from search engines, criminals can get a credible but harmful search results.
Central Criminal Police Crime Constable Marko wilderness A year ago, Nordea’s Bank Scams reported that manipulated search results have also been encountered in Finland.
– See if you go to the site via ad. In one case, five of the first seven search results were wrong, the wilderness said.
Don’t do this
For example, if you go to the website of your own bank via Google, there is a risk of clicking on the wrong search result. In the worst case, the user ends up on a scam site that mimics the bank’s pages and enters his bank ID there. If so, the criminals will receive the victim’s bank IDs and empty this account.
Payed but fake search results have previously been seen in the name of banks and authorities. According to the Cyber Security Center, fake search results have recently been on the move when applying for Traficom.
Traficom tips to avoid scam sites
- Make a bookmark for the necessary authority services and online banking.
- Make sure the address is the correct address of the service at the browser address bar.
- Do not blindly rely on the results provided by the search engine.
- Never go to the login pages from email links or text messages.
- Use your bank’s mobile app to bank.
