“Please react and make a democratic cord.” With these words, Master Tanguero Juan Massimo expressed his outrage after denouncing that his version of the emblematic theme of Charly GarciaDinosaurs, has been subject to systematic attacks on digital platforms, with multiple attempts to eliminate their video through Troll accounts reports. The piece, originally launched more than 30 years ago as a symbol of democratic return in 1983, was reversed by Massimo in a style that fuses tango, pop and rock.
Massimo’s career, with more than four decades of experience, has been marked by musical reinvention. His proposal of the “suburban tango” mixes the essence of traditional tango with contemporary influences of rock and rap, giving voice to the stories of love, resistance and rebellion of the Buenos Aires streets. Although born in the world of rock, his connection with Charly García and his work led him to rediscover his roots in tango, providing a modern and challenging vision of gender.
In tribute to the courage of Charly and with the intention of highlighting the impact of his complaint on the disappeared during the dictatorship, Massimo reversed “Dinosaurs” From a renewed but deeply rooted optics in Buenos Aires identity. However, what initially intended to be an artistic expression and a tribute to one of the most admired icons of Argentine music, became blank of systematic harassment. According to the producers in charge of the diffusion, the video has been repeatedly blocked on digital platforms, forcing them to restart their promotion from scratch.
In this regard, Massimo did not hesitate to point out: “We all know that the current ruling administration is denialist and honors some practices that were very sad for our citizens in the dictatorshipbut from there that an artistic expression generates moving the entire device to eliminate opposite thoughts is very suggestive. One thing is the cultural battle that they say and another is artistic censorship. “
Despite the obstacles, the Tanguera version of the dinosaurs managed to exceed one million reproductions in a few days before being blocked again. This situation raises questions about the limits between free artistic expression and censorship mechanisms in the digital age. Here we present the musical version that unleashed this controversy so you can get your own conclusions.
