The Neptunusbad in Klazienaveen will close its doors from this fall. The reason is the long -awaited makeover of the swimming pool, a job for which the municipality spends 8.5 million euros. Due to the renovation, the doors will be locked for a year.

The Klazienaveen swimming paradise could not be left behind. The municipality of Emmen owns three covered swimming pools. In addition to the Neptune bath, those are the strokes in Schoonebeek and the Aquarena in Emmen. The first bath was completely clarified in 2022 and in 2019 a completely new building was set up for the Aquarena at Sport and Businesspark Meerdijk. Finally in the list, it is now the turn of Neptunusbad from 1990.

Apart from some lap work, there has never been large -scale maintenance on the bath. After almost 35 years of loyal service, it is now really necessary, according to sports alderman Pascal Schrik. “The bath no longer meets modern standards. The climate and filter system works anything but well and has to be replaced. Both the competition bath and the instruction pool have to be tiled again.”

The last bath is equipped with a movable floor. In addition, the swimming pool building is 150 square meters larger. According to Schrik, there is a need for more storage space for the employees and that is therefore intended for that expansion. Finally, the swimming pool on the outside is put in a completely new look.

The renovation of the Neptunusbad was initially estimated at five million euros. A year and a half ago it became clear that an additional 3.5 million euros had to be allocated. “We have drawn a lesson from the job with the strokes, where we initially only concentrated on the bath and the climate system. But afterwards more work turned out to be necessary.”
