With the commitment of Jonas Urbig from 1st FC Köln, FC Bayern has caught the largest German goalkeeper talent, according to many experts. RTL expert Patrick Helmes evaluates the deal – from the perspective of the German record champions, but also from Cologne perspective.
“For FC Bayern it is of course great to have grabbed such a great talent,” said the former international at RTL/NTV and sport.de.
For 1. FC Köln, Urbig’s departure is also “a shame”, Helmes continued. “Sure, you get a lot of money, but have also lost a great talent that you did not finish.”
For Jona’s Urbig, a base revenue of seven million euros flows into the cathedral city. Another three million euros can be added in the form of bonus payments. At Bayern, the U21 national goalkeeper signed a long-term contract until 2029.
“He is one of the most promising young goalkeepers in German football, very ambitious and has huge potential,” said Bayern sports director Christoph Freund.
In Munich, Urbig is to act as number two behind Platzhirsch and captain Manuel Neuer and possibly be built up as his successor.
“Now you will see for just half a year how he does it behind new ones. In summer I would tend to be in the direction of a loan,” said Helmes.
“Goalkeeper sharing” at FC Bayern? “That would also be a good number for Urbig”
In conversation, however, there is also a model in which new games have to be given to his possible successor. “That would also be a good number for Urbig,” stated Helmes.
Urbig has been playing in the youngsters of 1. FC Köln since 2012. He started the current second division season as a regular goalkeeper, but was degraded to backup by coach Gerhard Struber in favor of voutine Marvin Schwäbe.
Overall, Urbig is only in eleven missions in the professional sector, not a single one in the first division.
