De Sutter is Deputy Prime Minister in the resigning federal government and set a strong score in the youngest parliamentary election. The expectation was that she would apply to become chairman of the party, but she let that chalice pass them by.
De Sutter also has had a scientific career. Until 2019 she was head of the reproductive medicine department of the Ghent University Hospital.
