Radja Nainggolan has been a scandal professional for a long time. Now there is a stir around the Belgian again. Is he involved in international drug trafficking?
The former Belgian international Radja Nainggolan was arrested by the Brussels police at a drug raid. According to the Brussels public prosecutor, there were 30 house searches on Monday morning, primarily in the province of Antwerp and in Brussels. The investigation is “suspected that cocaine from South America is introduced to Europe via the port of Antwerp and spread in Belgium.”
The public prosecutor confirmed Nainggolan’s arrest in this context, but also emphasized: “In view of the ongoing interrogations and taking into account the principle of the presumption of innocence, no further comment will be made at the moment.” The public prosecutor will only provide further information after the interrogations have been completed.
Nainggolan has only been under contract with the Belgian second division club KSC Lokeren-Temse since last week. The association was surprised and explained that they had learned from the media about the investigation. “We can only confirm that the player did not take part in training this morning,” said a message. Respect the presumption of innocence and therefore cannot make any further comment.
And further: “The club would still like to concentrate only on the important catch -up game against Kas Eupen tomorrow evening. Radja Nainggolan is not eligible for this game anyway.”
Nainggolan, who played 30 international matches for Belgium in his career and ran for AS Rome and Inter Milan, among other things, makes the headlines again – this time possibly with serious consequences.
The 36-year-old had already noticed several negatively in the past. According to media reports, he once lost his driver’s license for driving under the influence of alcohol. His former club Royal Antwerp also suspended him after smoking an e-cigarette on the replacement bench.
