During the 22nd edition of Natuurpunt’s Big Bird Weekend, according to preliminary figures, 8,727 people in 5,248 gardens counted 153,772 birds. On average there were 22 birds of 7 different species per garden, which is one bird per garden less than last year.

West Flanders therefore retains the second best score (together with East Flanders) in terms of the number of birds per garden. Chaffinch, jackdaw and house sparrow determine the top 3. This is different from last year, when house sparrow was still the most popular. That is also the most spotted bird in all of Flanders this year.
