Two political parties in Westerveld will enter the 2026 municipal elections together. This concerns Sustainable Strong Westerveld (DSW) and Municipal Interests (GB). The members of the parties have agreed to this.
Both parties form one electoral list during the elections. They then also form a joint faction in the municipal council. Until then, the factions will continue to work separately in the municipal council. DSW is the largest party with 4 seats and is in the council with VVD and CDA. Gemeentebelangen has 2 seats and is part of the opposition.
The idea for the merger arose from the DSW and Municipal Interest groups. “The two parties have chosen to jointly promote one strong local voice. While the political course sometimes differed in the past, the two parties have increasingly grown closer together,” the party boards report.
The possibility of a merger, which would result in a single board, has not been ruled out in the future.
