Julian Nagelsmann has extended his contract as national coach by two years until 2028. The German Football Association (DFB) announced this on Friday.
The 37-year-old is expected to look after the German national team until the 2028 European Championships in Great Britain and Ireland. His contract originally ran until the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico.

As the DFB announced, Nagelsmann signed the new contract in Leipzig as part of the 125th anniversary of the German Football Association (DFB). The DFB Presidium as well as the Supervisory Board and the Shareholders’ Meeting of DFB GmbH & Co. KG unanimously followed DFB President Bernd Neuendorf’s suggestion to extend the current contract with Nagelsmann.
DFB President Neuendorf described the contract extension as an important signal: “Julian Nagelsmann fills this position perfectly with his sporting expertise, but also his fine feeling for the team and the fans.”
Völler: “Formed a unit again”
DFB director Rudi Völler stated that the players and the entire DFB staff would have liked to continue working with Nagelsmann at an early stage in order to “to work long-term and as passionately as before to realize our great sporting ambitions“, says Völler.
