The Godfather of Punk – and the ultimate blowjob.
You don’t show up at a jazz festival with a Stooges-like rumble rock line-up. If you refuse to wear a suit and take off your vest during the first seconds of the opener “Five Foot One” to reveal a 77-year-old torso, you bring a seven-piece ensemble with you, including a brass section. And how the Iggy Pops back catalog blasts the march!
Supposedly dead-on classics like “The Passenger” and “Lust For Life” shine in new brass blooms, while the proto-punk beaters of the Stooges age “Raw Power” and “I Wanna Be Your Dog” almost cause the band to overwhelm with frenzy. But “night clubbing” is best suited to the jazzy, elegant evening gown.
But Iggy Pop not only covers the greatest hits, but also recalls deep cuts like “The Endless Sea” and “Mass Production”. Vocally in top form, he greets the crowd with “Hey motherfuckers, kiss my ass!” If the upcoming climate catastrophes are even remotely as brutal as the force of nature Iggy Pop, then God help us.
