Norway is one of the negative surprises at the Handball World Cup. The end of the main round is imminent. And the chances are even worse after a failure.

The Norwegian national team has to cope with a serious setback at the 2025 Handball World Cup. As NRK reports, Sander Sagosen suffered a calf injury in the game against Spain (25:24) and will most likely not play again.

“That is the current status, but we will examine him again in the hotel,” Norwegian team doctor Thomas Torgalsen told NRK.

Sagosen will have to take a break for four to six weeks before he can play handball again. Norway’s national coach Jonas Wille was deeply affected after the game: “It’s really sad.” Despite the criticism that Sagosen has received recently, Wille said he showed his class in the game against Spain.

Former handball player Håvard Tvedten sees Norway’s chances of reaching the quarter-finals without Sagosen as poor. “If he’s out, it’s a pretty difficult situation,” said the 46-year-old.

Norway will face Chile on Friday evening and Sweden on Sunday. To advance, the Scandinavians would need two wins and help from the competition.
