A bride for Maajussi familiar from the program Jani Laakso has woken up to the wolf problem prevailing in Pirkanmaa during the last few months. In the past, herds of deer used to roam the yard, but now there are only fresh wolf tracks on the farm.
Laakso, who lives in Urjala, is worried about the wolf population. He also published Tiktok videos on the subject, which have garnered more than 80,000 views.
– I live in Urjala in a so-called “wolf-free” area, this is like a transit area for wolves. The total wolf problem is on the Punkalaitumi side, where wolves are a big nuisance for farmers. There you don’t dare to let children walk in the school taxi or keep domestic animals in the yard, Laakso tells Iltalehte.
According to Laakso, in Urjala there are packs of even more wolves near farms and settlements. Urjalan Sanomat wrote on January 8 about wolf sightings at Urjala station and downtown.
Iltalehti reached out to the Urjala game management association, which did not want to comment on the wolf situation in Urjala.
Laakso made his first wolf sightings in his backyard two years ago. Over the past six months, Laakso has made new wolf sightings in his backyard every week.
– Why does the first human injury have to happen for something to be done about this matter? This is already a problem for lampreys and ranchers, and soon we will have no more deer and other game to hunt, Laakso tiva.

Laakso’s farm has had horses and chickens. His horse died unexpectedly in December. He had to place his second horse in a temporary stable. At the moment, Laakso is thinking about whether he dares to bring horses back to his own yard because of the wolf problem.
– Wolves are also a big problem for my horses. I just recently said out loud for the first time that thank God I don’t have horses here at home.
Laakso says that he understands that the wolf is an important part of the ecosystem. However, he does not understand why wolves should not be hunted based on safety and livelihood.
– It seems really wild that why don’t wolves get a felling permit around here, when they are already roaming in the center of Urjala, Toijala and Valkeakoski.
– Right now we have an awful lot of inbred wolves. It is a lie that we have 300 wolves in Finland. You can’t calculate that position. Why are those 300 wolves suddenly running around here in people’s yards and settlements? He adds up.
