This year the election of the village photographer takes place for the first time under the auspices of the Heemskerk cultural center. Organizer Ben Roozendaal hopes that the new approach will ensure that the phenomenon becomes more alive in Heemskerk. “Every photo taken by the village photographer will be displayed in the window of a shop and at the end of the term there will be an exhibition of all the photos in the town hall.”

Nature as inspiration

The photos that will be on display at the end of the year, with the exception of the photo that was presented this week, all still have to be taken. But that will turn out all right, predicts René van Rijswijk. In daily life he is a train driver, but he always goes out a few times a month to take photos.

“I wanted to become a village photographer because I thought it was a challenging task,” says René. He says that he delivers the best work when there is a bit of pressure and something is expected. He doesn’t make a plan but sets off and feasts his eyes. “Then I usually come across my photo automatically.” He is inspired by nature in and around Heemskerk. The first photo is a photo of the beach of Heemskerk. “I am especially captivated by the light and its reflection in the water.”
