Coffeeshop Noorderlight on Wilhelminalaan in Etten-Leur is temporarily closed due to a police investigation. A pole with two cameras has also been placed in front of the shop door. The cameras were installed by the police without notice. Local residents and other entrepreneurs in the street don’t understand it. “I have lived here for fifteen years and I have never had any nuisance from the coffee shop,” says an older woman who lives opposite.

Noorderlight’s shutters have been closed since Tuesday morning and there are notes: “Due to circumstances, we are closed until February 3, 2025.” The temporary closure means a lot of disappointed customers driving back and forth.

Local residents and entrepreneurs are especially surprised that there is suddenly a huge pole with cameras in the street. They have no idea what is going on and why the shop is closed. “I have always felt safe. A coffee shop like this has the best security in the neighborhood with a security guard at the door,” says a businesswoman from the street.

The entrepreneur therefore called the police to investigate, but they did not give her any clarity. Except the cameras will probably stay up for another three weeks.

A police spokesperson told Omroep Brabant that ‘there is an ongoing investigation.’ “That’s why we can’t share anything about this at the moment. I don’t dare say how long the cameras will remain there.” The municipality of Etten-Leur has also announced that it cannot say anything about the situation at the coffee shop or the placement of the cameras.
