The bicycle will also gain in popularity in West Flanders between 2023 and 2024: almost 6% more. The bicycle – all types, including the scooter, for example – is therefore the big winner in commuting. Yet, with almost 44%, West Flanders remains below the Flemish average of 48%.

The percentage of West Flemish employees who (also) rely on the car remains around 80%, the share of public transport accounts for a share of 4% and that also remains below the Flemish average. Another thing that emerges from the ninth edition of the mobility barometer by HR expert Acerta Consult is that in Belgium, diesel has seen its share of commercial vehicles drop from 80% to less than 30% in 5 years.
