A football player Kimmo Tauriainen has died at the age of 52. About that tells with the announcement Veikkausliiga.

Wife Maria Tauriainen says on Facebook that her husband was diagnosed with lymph node cancer in the summer of 2023, which was initially controlled, but it became aggressive again last fall.

Tauriainen, who enjoyed himself as a striker, played 88 matches in the Veikkausliiga and scored seven goals in them.

The RoPS native won bronze in his home club in his debut season in 1989. He got to celebrate the championship with MyPa 16 years later. Tauriainen’s achievements also include two Finnish Cup victories. In addition to the Veikkausliiga, Tauriainen played in the First Division and represented the Norwegian IK Start for one season.

Kimmo Tauriainen’s brothers Pasi and Vesa are also soccer players.
