The survivor scheme for deceased applicants for childcare allowance will start on January 20, 2025. The relatives of people who had applied for childcare allowance will be given the opportunity to go through the recovery process to which the deceased parent would have been entitled.
State Secretary Palmen: “The consequences of the benefits affair often affect the entire family. It is important that all victims and their families receive the right help as quickly as possible. The Survivors Scheme for deceased applicants is an important step to also help families where the victim of childcare benefits has died. .”

If a childcare benefit recipient dies, the family still needs help. The survivor scheme makes it possible for the heirs to receive the compensation to which the deceased parent would otherwise have been entitled. Relatives are at different stages of the recovery process. From this week, surviving relatives will be approached step by step by the Recovery Benefits Implementation Organization (UHT). It is expected that support for all surviving relatives will start within 4 months.
End of recovery operation
The government wants all affected parents to be fully compensated for the damage suffered by the end of 2027. They must have had the support too. About 80 percent of the registered parents have already had a comprehensive assessment and almost 39,000 parents have been recognized as victims. Affected parents all received 30,000 euros. Their debts have been addressed and they are receiving support. They also received back all the money they wrongfully had to pay with interest. They have also received financial compensation for the non-material and emotional damage they have suffered. Their children have received a financial contribution.
