The Swiss follow Germany and the Czech Republic into the main round of the Handball World Cup. But things got exciting against Poland.
Switzerland has reached the main round of the Handball World Cup. The team of national coach Andy Schmid, who played for the Rhein-Neckar Löwen for twelve years in the Bundesliga, defeated Poland at the end of the preliminary round in Herning, Denmark, with 30:28 (18:15) and followed the German team into the next phase of the tournament.
Thanks to Switzerland’s success, Germany and the Czech Republic also qualified from preliminary group A, while Poland was eliminated from the medal race in fourth place.
This means that German main round group 1 is complete with six teams. From Group B, Olympic champions and top favorites Denmark, Italy and Tunisia will join the fight for the quarter-finals, which will also take place in Herning from Tuesday. Only the best two teams in the group of six reach the quarter-finals.
