The match between Modena and Frosinone ends 1-1: the Ciociari remain third from last

Matteo Gentili

January 18 – 5.46pm – MILAN

In the afternoon of Serie B, Cremonese broke the curse of the Zini stadium after three games (and two months). Here, against Cosenza, he suffered more than expected but in the end he won the three points with late goals from Vazquez and Johnsen. The hero of the day in Salerno, however, was Cerri who first made it 1-1, then scored the decisive penalty at the end of the match, sealing the comeback against Reggiana. The Breda team regains victory after three consecutive defeats. Mantova also wins (away) and extends their lead over their direct competitor Cittadella thanks to goals from Ruocco and Mancosu. Modena-Frosinone ends in a draw: the home team goes ahead, but doesn’t take advantage of their numerical superiority and comes up against the pride of Greco’s boys. Bari-Brescia on the pitch now.

CITADELLA-MANTUA 1-2

At the Tombolato stadium, Cittadella is the protagonist at the start of the match. The hosts pressed high and crushed Mantova, who instead resisted and took the lead in the 34th minute. Mensah keeps contact with Pavan in the penalty area, creates the space he needs on his own and places the cross for Ruocco to head into an empty net. Cittadella tries to react and challenges Festa: the goalkeeper flies over Salvi’s header after a free kick. At half-time the score was 0-1. Ready, go and Mantova immediately doubled their lead in the second half with the penalty kick converted by Mancosu (foul by Capradossi). Like the first time, Dal Canto’s boys react again and this time they find the net that halves the deficit with Vita’s center on an assist from Masciangelo. The Granata try to put it back on equal terms and in the last ten minutes they come very close with Pandolfi, whose shot goes out wide.

CREMONESE-COSENZA 3-1

Cosenza was the most active team in the first twenty minutes of the game, but the resourcefulness of Alvini’s men was broken by Cremonese’s goal. In the 23rd minute Vandeputte puts in a cross from the left which Pickel arrives at: the number 6 heads it past a defender and opens the scoring. However, the advantage lasts very little, only four minutes. Cosenza equalized with Ricciardi, his fourth goal of the championship, who scored from the spot following an action originating from the post hit by Rizzo Pinna. In the second half Ricciardi is once again the protagonist, but this time in a negative way. The author of Cosenza’s lead gets his second yellow card in the 62nd minute by fouling Barbieri and leaves the field. From this moment the ferocious siege of the Grigiorossi begins and, attempt after attempt, they score the second goal in the 85th minute. The usual Vazquez put his signature on it, scoring the ninth goal thanks to the descent of an unleashed Vandeputte. In the 93rd minute Johnsen finally closed it out with a nice right-footed shot from outside the area.

MODENA-FROSINONE 1-1

Modena tries to immediately take control of the game and in the 25th minute comes very close to scoring the first goal: Gerli serves Battistella at the limit, but his shot hits the post to Cerofolini’s right. Things get worse for Frosinone shortly after as Oyono gets sent off for a foul with his hammer foot on Magnino. The direct red gives even more confidence to the gialloblù who manage to break the deadlock in the 43rd minute with the usual Palumbo, with his fifth goal of the season. The number 10 beats the opposing goalkeeper with a great low shot, taking advantage of a rebound in the penalty area, and makes it 1-0. Even with ten men, Frosinone didn’t stop fighting and in the 55th minute scored, surprising Modena on the counterattack thanks to Darboe’s goal. Time is running out and Mandelli’s team will never be able to take advantage of the extra man. The game maneuvers remain slow, while Frosinone keeps their heads high by continuing to attack on the counterattack and taking an away point with great pride.

SALERNITANA-REGGIANA 2-1

The match was rather blocked at the start at the Arechi stadium in Salerno, in which the teams only made themselves seen with some less than precise shots. The only jolt of the first half came in the 30th minute when Tongya, after a corner kicked by Njoh, attempted a curling shot from outside the area which hit the crossbar. The second half is decidedly livelier and opens with an expulsion among Reggiana’s ranks: Ignacchiti hits Cerri’s ankle and sends Salernitana into numerical superiority. However, the card did not scare the guests who went ahead in the 62nd minute. Portanova takes the crossbar following Vergara’s suggestion and Vido scores the tap in. Salernitana did not give up and found the equalizer in the 75th minute: Cerri headed Verde’s free kick and scored his second consecutive goal. With the score at 1-1, Breda’s men try to break the tie several times. First with Bronn, whose long-range shot goes just wide of the post. Then they succeed thanks to the colossal defensive ingenuity of Vido who gives Salernitana a penalty one minute from time. Cerri displaces Bardi and gives his team the victory.
