The Biathlon World Championships will take place in Switzerland in February. Vanessa Voigt has her eye on the competition, but has to worry about her participation.
Biathlete Vanessa Voigt will not compete in any more races until the World Championships at the beginning of February. The season highlight itself is also in danger. As the German Ski Association announced, the 27-year-old from Thuringia will be out for the rest of the home World Cup until Sunday in Ruhpolding and for the World Cup dress rehearsal next week in Antholz, Italy.
“She has left and is back home,” said sports director Felix Bitterling: “She should have a few days of rest, then a few check-ups will be done to make 100 percent sure that everything is medically okay.”
Voigt, number two in the German team behind World Cup leader Franziska Preuß, was ill over the Christmas period and has apparently still not recovered. At one start each in Oberhof and Ruhpolding, she was weak and far behind expectations. She should start preparing for the World Cup in the week after the races in Antholz, if her health allows it. The World Championships will take place from February 12th to 23rd in Lenzerheide/Switzerland.
Julia Tannheimer will also miss the remaining races in Ruhpolding; she is also neither available for the relay on Saturday nor for the mass start on Sunday. She was “not really fit either,” said Bitterling. On Thursday, the 19-year-old from Ulm had to forego competing in the individual competition at short notice due to a bronchial infection. “We will decide at the beginning of the week whether it will start in Antholz,” said Bitterling.
