About a month after his son’s Red Bull Racing exit, Antonio Pérez, the father of Formula 1 driver Sergio Pérez, spoke out, talked about the fate of the 34-year-old Mexican and surprised with a few statements.
Sergio Pérez has to watch the 2025 Formula 1 season from the stands. This has been clear since the end of last year. The Mexican’s performances were too bad, and his performances even cost Red Bull Racing their triumph in the constructors’ world championship in 2024.
After Pérez himself recently spoke out about his future and stated that he wanted to consider in the coming months whether he wanted to continue in the premier class of motorsport, his father, Antonio Pérez, made people sit up and take notice with pithy statements.
“The best version of Checo Pérez is yet to come,” Pérez senior told “soymotor.com” before the Formula E Grand Prix in Mexico.
“Everyone will be very happy and proud,” continued the F1 driver’s father. “What he has achieved in the past is one thing, but what is to come will be historic,” emphasized Antonio Pérez, adding: “There are great things ahead.” The Mexican didn’t say exactly what he meant by that.
Pérez-Page has not given up Formula 1
However, he gave a hint: “The only thing I can say here is that we have not yet given up on Pérez in Formula 1.”
Meanwhile, Pérez’s father did not feel any resentment towards Red Bull Racing. “He had the best years of his sporting career there. We shouldn’t take that with displeasure, that’s just the world of motorsport.”
You have to keep one thing in mind: “Formula 1 only has 20 seats and there are more than seven billion people in the world,” recalled Pérez senior.
Getting into the premier class of motorsport is very difficult. “But becoming runner-up is almost impossible,” said Antonio Pérez, looking back on his son’s success in 2023.
In any case, he sees a bright future for Pérez Jr. “Checo is already the best-known Latin American in the world, ahead of footballers and other celebrities,” Pérez senior said.
