Film director David Lynch has died at the age of 78.

Lynch’s most famous directing works are the legendary television series Twin Peaksmovies Blue Velvet – and bluer was the night, Mullholland Drive, The Elephant Man and Eraserhead.
Lynch said last year that he has emphysema, a result of a lifetime of smoking.
– I have to stay at home, whether I want to or not, Lynch said in an interview with Sight and Sound magazine last August.
At the same time, Lynch said that he is afraid of contracting the coronavirus or another disease.
In emphysema, the tissues of the lungs expand and oxygen does not flow normally. The most difficult symptom of the disease is shortness of breath.
Even though smoking caused emphysema, Lynch said he still loved smoking.
– Pleasure has its price and in my case it is emphysema, Lynch wrote in August message service to X.
Lynch’s passing was announced by his family on Facebook.
– There is a big hole in the world now that he is no longer with us. But, as he would say, “keep your eyes on the donut, not the hole,” the family writes on Facebook.
Lynch’s films have been described as surreal and have become modern classics. Variety writes, how in Lynch’s notable works such as Twin Peaks, Blue Velvet and Lost Highway combined horror, film noir, crime mysteries and classic European surrealism.
Lynch not only directed Twin Peaks, one of the most iconic series of the 90s, but he also co-created it by Mark Frost with.
Lynch won several important awards in his long career. In 1990, he was awarded the Golden Palm. Lynch was nominated for an Academy Award four times. In 2019, he received an honorary award at the Oscars.

Lynch was also a photographer whose exhibitions traveled around the world. Two years ago, the David Lynch: Infinite Deep exhibition was on display in Helsinki.
Lynch visited Finland in 2007. At that time it was found out that he has Finnish ancestry and that the grandfather is from Finland. It is known that the roots extend to South Ostrobothnia and Satakunta.
