Pieters crashed at the end of 2021 during road training near Calpe, Spain. She became unconscious and suffered serious brain damage. After an operation, Pieters was in a coma for months. She recuperated at the Daan Theeuwes Center in Woerden, where she learned to walk again. However, she will always need care. Her memory is severely affected and she cannot speak.
33-year-old Pieters went to court because she could not reach an agreement on her contract with SD Worx-Protime.
