So the club could go back and think more about defense than attack: at the English crossroads they would turn towards Kyle Walker. One Briton excludes the other: if the club focuses on the City player it will necessarily give up the United player. The Walker option is certainly low cost: he would be released for free and an agreement on the six million salary could be found by offering the player a longer contract than the current one (expiring in 2026) and spreading the contract over more time. salary that he guaranteed in the Premier League. Walker could do for two: right back and central defender, and on this point a new chapter must be opened. At 34, Walker is a player with experience, as well as a player on the wing: experience that he can put to the service of the team as a defensive partner of a younger central defender, Gabbia or Thiaw. The main occupation could be precisely this, leaving the right lane to the various Emerson, Calabria, Jimenez. Walker’s central addition wouldn’t be the only new feature in the department. An entry would precede a possible exit, and Tomori in Juventus orbit remains a candidate for transfer. Not the only one: surprisingly he is no longer sure of his place (today on the bench…) not even Pavlovic. The Serbian was the second most expensive purchase of the summer: eighteen million plus bonuses in Salzburg’s coffers. It could start again if a foreign company managed to at least match the offer. Pavlovic’s Rossoneri history has been unusual so far: bench against Torino in the season opener, then starter for three games in a row, reserve again in the first derby of the season, still in for another four games and then definitively out. Not even a minute in the last six Serie A games.
This is why Walker, central defender, could be a welcome solution for Conceiçao, who will obviously have to have his say. And he will be asked again today, when a sort of summit between the club and the coach is expected in terms of the transfer market. Even if Conceiçao confirmed the need to intervene in defense, an alternative option could also be considered: Jonathan Tah, Leverkusen’s German centre-back whose contract expires in June: it is inevitable that he will have demanding demands on his salary considering the many suitors who have come forward, even from ‘Italy.
The arrival of a defender could be accompanied by the arrival of a striker, regardless of Rashford. If the coach opts for the two strikers in the squad in the future there are Morata and Abraham, with Camarda as an alternative and Jovic – Monaco or Sevilla in his future – now out of the project. Rashford, by the way: after Barcelona’s inclusion he took a few days to decide. Yesterday, after a conversation between the agents and United, a definitive answer was expected from Milan. Which instead was postponed by a few days and without the Rossoneri club issuing an ultimatum. In the meantime, however, Milan is looking around, ready to book a flight from Manchester to Milan. Not United red but City blue.
