Now it’s official: Ron-Thorben Hoffmann and Eintracht Braunschweig are reunited after only six months. This is how the keeper sees his return.
With the prospect of number one status at FC Schalke 04, Ron-Thorben Hoffmann turned his back on Eintracht Braunschweig last summer. After only half a year he is now back on the Oker. BTSV officially confirmed the goalkeeper’s return on Tuesday, which had been speculated about for weeks.
The 25-year-old will initially play for Eintracht again on loan until the end of the season. The BTSV then has an obligation to purchase if the club manages to stay in the 2nd Bundesliga. According to the “Braunschweiger Zeitung”, a sum of 100,000 to 200,000 euros would be due for the purchase.
“I’m happy to be able to wear the red lion on my chest again.”

Hoffmann moved from FC Bayern Munich to Braunschweig in the summer of 2022. Over time he established himself as a regular goalkeeper there and stood between the posts a total of 46 times. He then tried his luck at Schalke, where he only played three competitive games and lost the duel with goalkeeper competitor Justin Heekeren several times.
Hoffmann: “The last six months have been really challenging for me. I’ve learned again and am more focused than ever.” Now he is “extremely happy” to be back in Braunschweig. According to reports, he will even have to accept financial compromises in order to do so. “I have really fond memories of the club, the city and the fans,” says the goalkeeper.
He now wants to subordinate everything to the goal of staying in the league. “The entire Eintracht environment can be sure that I will do everything I can every day to ensure that we achieve our big goal of staying in the league,” said Hoffmann. “I’m happy to be able to wear the red lion on my chest again.” In an interview within the club, he described the Schalke move as a “misjudgment”.
For sports director Benjamin Kessel, the return campaign is a real coup in a key position in which Eintracht repeatedly had problems over the course of the first half of the season. Hoffmann also benefits from the fact that he already knows the environment. “In the joint discussions it quickly became clear how much both sides want to work together again,” said Kessel.
Spicy: At the start of the second half of the season next Saturday (1 p.m.), Eintracht will face Hoffmann’s former club Schalke 04. But then the returnee won’t be in goal yet. A clause anchored in the contract prohibits him from acting against the Revierclub.
